To meet growing demand and expand our capabilities, we’re seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist to help shape and strengthen our Diocesan-wide business intelligence function.
The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is building a modern, purpose-driven Data & Analytics function to support our agencies, parishes, and services with timely, trusted insights. At the heart of our strategy is Data4Good - a commitment to using data to improve decision-making that positively impacts the lives of people in our community.
In this key Technology Services position based at our Newcastle West office, you’ll work closely with other members of the Data & Analytics team to design and deliver business intelligence solutions that support strategic planning, performance monitoring, and operational decision-making.
The base salary for this role is around $120,000 per annum, with final remuneration to be negotiated based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Deliver Business Intelligence Solutions: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and maintain BI solutions that meet organisational needs, using tools like Databricks, SQL Server, and Power BI to deliver clear, actionable insights.
- Enable Strategic Use of Data Across the Diocese: Work closely with internal teams and external partners to understand reporting requirements, identify relevant data sources, and translate business needs into effective data models and visualisations.
- Promote Data Quality, Governance, and Literacy: Support the development of data governance practices by contributing to data modelling, documentation, and quality assurance, while helping to build a culture of data-informed decision-making.
Experience/Criteria
- Experience with business intelligence frameworks and tools, ideally Power BI, SSAS, and Microsoft Azure
- Strong SQL skills and experience in programming languages such as Python
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data clearly
- A solid understanding of dimensional modelling (Kimball), data warehousing concepts, and data governance
- Experience capturing business requirements and translating them into effective data solutions
- The ability to produce and review conceptual and logical data models
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- A willingness to learn and apply new techniques as our capabilities evolve
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology; or an equivalent combination of knowledge gained through education, training and /or experience
- Current Class C Driver's Licence
- NSW Working with Children Check for paid employment
