About the opportunity

Professor Cameron Turtle is the CLEARbridge Chair in Cancer Immunotherapy. Professor Turtle leads clinical and laboratory research teams developing and conducting clinical trials of genetically modified cellular (CAR-T cell) immunotherapies for patients with haematologic malignancies.

The School of Medical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Health has an exciting opportunity for a Computational Biologist to join Professor Turtle’s immunotherapy lab in the Charles Perkins Centre at The University of Sydney. The incumbent will support the formulation and execution of research initiatives.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • process and analyse high-throughput datasets, including quality control

  • work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, and provide intellectual input into experimental design, analysis and biological interpretation of data

  • prepare figures for publication and contribute to manuscript writing

  • stay abreast of advances in computational methods and develop best practices to address key biological questions

  • build and maintain biological domain expertise.

About you

  • A master’s or Ph.D. in Computational Biology or Immunology, with proven experience in analysing and interpreting bulk and single cell epigenomic data is desirable

  • comfortable working with Unix and in a HPC environment. Proficient in R and Python

  • strong background in biology. Experience in immunobiology preferred

  • exhibit commitment to good quality data, and show initiative in understanding best practices in NGS workflows, from experimental design, sample and library preparation to data processing, quality control and analysis

  • experience in developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines

  • meticulous attention to detail and accuracy of results, maintain detailed records and use version control systems

  • excellent written and verbal communication

  • strong problem-solving skills

  • ability to work independently and as part of a team.
