About the Role
Step into a unique and rewarding role as Curator and Collection Coordinator at Government House Sydney, where you’ll care for and interpret one of Australia’s most significant historical collections. From historic furniture and artworks to objects d’art, you’ll be instrumental in preserving, researching, and sharing the stories of the House, its grounds, and its continuing role in public life.
This role offers the rare opportunity to develop and deliver engaging projects that connect the site’s rich heritage with contemporary audiences, collaborating with historians, artists, artisans, and creatives from across NSW. You’ll also play a key role in balancing the needs of collection care with the demands of a working vice-regal residence, ensuring both are maintained to the highest standard.
Whether responding to conservation needs, supporting tours and events, undertaking original research, or shaping long-term interpretive strategies, you’ll contribute to a living heritage environment that is both historically resonant and culturally relevant.

Government House Sydney
Government House Sydney, the residence and the seat of administration of the Governor of New South Wales – the oldest statutory office in Australia - is staffed by employees of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. The team at Government House Sydney supports the Governor in the conduct of constitutional, ceremonial and community duties.
Collectively, the five functional areas (Protocol, Household, Estate Management, Communications and Secretariat) ensure that every aspect of the Governor’s and spouse’s programs of official engagements and engagement with the community are appropriately coordinated, managed and planned; that the official residence is suitably maintained; that the administrative arm of the organisation operates in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines; and that the heritage buildings, contents and grounds are managed and presented to the highest standard.

We're Looking For
Collections Management: Demonstrated ability to manage curatorial and collections-based projects from planning through to implementation, ensuring alignment with institutional vision and conservation standards- Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to establish and manage strategic partnerships with cultural, academic and heritage-sector stakeholders
- Program Promotion: Strong ability to communicate curatorial and historical narratives to a varied audience through exhibitions, tours, talks and multimedia formats
- Evaluation and Development: Experience gathering and using audience and stakeholder feedback to improve exhibitions and programs
- Issues Resolution: Demonstrated experience in resolving collection or site related issues diplomatically, preserving the integrity of the collection and department
