ASIC's Data Governance team is currently seeking an experienced Data Governance Policy professional to drive and contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of Data Governance standards, policies, processes, framework and strategy across.

  • Salary from $131,725 to $144,386 (depending on experience) + 15.4 % superannuation

The team

The Data Governance team leads the development and implementation of ASIC's data governance framework and data strategy. Collaborating with business and technical stakeholders, the team establishes data policies, principles and standards to enhance data capture, sharing and usage across ASIC. It also oversees a governance programme to safeguard data assets and manage associated risks.

The role

The Data Governance Policy Specialist supports the development and implementation of ASIC's data governance framework by maintaining standards, monitoring compliance, managing data risks and supporting data ethics initiatives. This also includes secretariat duties for governance bodies, collaboration on common language and taxonomy and contributing to research, communications and project delivery.

More specifically, you will:

  • Support the development and implementation of data governance standards, policies, and processes to ensure alignment with ASIC's framework and strategy.
  • Establish systems and measures to monitor compliance with governance policies, agreements and risk management frameworks.
  • Provide secretariat support for the Common Language Panel, including oversight of taxonomy development and approvals.
  • Coordinate secretariat functions for the Data Governance Council, AI Board, and key projects, including meeting preparation, reporting and action tracking.
  • Contribute to the cataloguing of ASIC's data assets, policies and standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain the Common Language Vocabulary and Taxonomy in Collibra, ensuring consistency and standardisation.

About you

The ideal candidate for this role is a detail-oriented and strategic professional with expertise in data governance, policy development and stakeholder engagement. They will bring experience in implementing governance frameworks, monitoring compliance, managing data risks and supporting data ethics initiatives. They will also possess strong organisational and communication skills enabling them to provide secretariat support to governance bodies and collaborate effectively on taxonomy development and enterprise-wide data standards.

In addition, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, Information Management, Economics, Law, or a related discipline with a focus on data governance.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and applying data governance policies and practices, with knowledge of frameworks such as DAMA, DMBOK, and DATA2.0.
  • Proven ability to work with complex data and embed data strategy across projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in a range of software applications, including Microsoft Office.
