Primary objective
Develop and manage processes and standards required to fulfil the obligations for the local and national reporting agenda, including a
specific focus on data assurance and governance. Provide timely and reliable advice to a broad range of stakeholders.
Context statement
The Strategic Reporting and Performance team within the Strategic and Business Services division leads the department’s national and
strategic data collections, submissions and public reporting, working in partnership with other divisions and OneNTG agencies. The team
undertakes analysis to inform evidence-based policy and investment and provides data and performance advisory services to other
business areas within the department. The team have system ownership of the departments main school and system business intelligence
platform (eDash) and the Business Intelligence Centre (BIC) and provide data assurance and governance functions.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a system data governance framework, including the agency specific Measurement Framework, and continuous
improvement strategies to ensure the delivery of high quality, relevant, timely and consistent data, information and reporting.
2. Manage data access provision requirements and contribute to priority projects including data collections, analysis and executive
briefings that progress the agency’s strategic direction.
3. Work effectively within a high performing team to develop and analyse new and existing performance measures and provide advice
and insight to senior staff.
4. Provide strong leadership, mentoring, support and training to foster a collaborative, effective and efficient team environment, meeting
the requirements of internal and external clients.
5. Support building data capability and culture across the department.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive knowledge and proven experience in the areas of data governance and strategic information management with
demonstrated ability to manage projects to implement and enforce data governance standards.
2. Strong demonstrated ability to manipulate complex datasets from diverse sources, and proficiency in relevant business intelligence,
reporting and data visualisation applications to produce reports for a range of audiences.
3. Demonstrated ability to objectively and systematically analyse data and information to support evidence-based decision making.
4. Highly developed organisational and interpersonal skills and proven ability to negotiate with senior professionals and operational
personnel to implement change in a complex and sensitive environment.
5. High-level oral and written communication skills, including the ability succinctly articulate key messages to targeted audiences and an
ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary graduate and post graduate qualifications in a field relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
