The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity, and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Marine Park Act), reporting to the Minister for the Environment and Water. Our objective is the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park.

The Position
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and creative digital professional to join our small team at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Australia’s lead management agency for the Reef. Working as part of a team, you will provide strategic input into the Reef Authority’s digital and marketing plan, processes and reporting to ensure content and our communications channels remain on-brand, build our audience, and positions us as the authoritative voice for the Reef.
In this position, you will be involved in developing a range of audience-focused content for our channels including, but not limited to: entertaining and interactive content, written posts, images, engaging videos, reels, animations, and infographics. You will play a crucial role in supporting optimal user experience across our digital channels, developing and implementing effective website strategies including SEO and web design, and supporting the Digital and Marketing section.
You’ll know your way around social media channels, website management tools, scheduling tools and measurement, and be able to use your creative copywriting and content producing skills to optimise content across channels to maximise audience reach, amplify the messages, and ensure return on investment.
The position also supports the team in providing creative material to journalists and stakeholders, as well as participating in other projects that supports the overarching communications strategy, across the team and the organisation.
About You
- You are an experienced digital content writer, producer and strategist who has administered online channels using digital marketing principles and skills.
- You’re focused, productive and know how to identify priorities and meet timelines.
- You are experienced in producing creative projects including, but not limited to, graphic design, video and photo, web design and written content from strategy and planning through to completion.
- You’re an active social media and website user who keeps up-to-date with latest trends.
- You are someone who can work collaboratively across the team, the organisation, key stakeholders and the wider community using creativity to build and implement digital content.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the Reef Authority’s digital and marketing initiatives, provide strategic and practical advice, and identify opportunities for delivering a creative and audience-focused digital experience through implementing our digital and marketing activities.
- Produce engaging and creative ways to tell-stories and position the Reef Authority through interactive content, graphic design, video, audio, photography, infographics, blogs, animations and reels, with the in-house teams or via external suppliers from the planning stages (conception, storyboard, copywriting) right through to the finished product.
- Assist with coordinating content and managing social media platforms including moderation, handling comments, messages, and actively engaging with other key stakeholder channels to increase brand awareness.
- Contribute to the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of our corporate website using our content management system, ensuring a seamless user experience and up-to-date information. Support the Digital Manager and wider section by assisting with the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of the Reef Authority’s communication channels, publications and content management system.
- As part of the team, participate in section functions including media relations media clips, after-hours on-call roster and media liaison.

Eligibility
The successful candidate will:
- Have demonstrated experience in creating content (graphic design, video, photo) and strong knowledge of related software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Have experience in website content management systems.
- Be able to travel and participate in on-call media roster, including working weekends and outside core hours when required.
To be eligible for employment, candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
The position requires a Baseline security clearance. Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
The successful candidate will be willing to provide identity documents and undergo an identity pre-employment check through a Document Verification Service.

The current position is ongoing however through this process may create a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 18 months.
