St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) is seeking a seasoned and strategic leader to shape the future of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing (OHS&W) across one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit health care providers.
Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, the General Manager, OHS&W will define and lead the organisation’s safety and wellbeing strategy, building a contemporary, data-informed, and prevention-focused framework that supports more than 16,000 caregivers across multiple hospital, home, and community-based settings in three states.
This is a critical leadership role that integrates health, safety, and wellbeing into SJGHC’s leadership and delivery of care. Working closely with the Executive and Board, you will partner with senior leaders and ensure systems are compliant and enable high performance and workforce wellbeing.
Key areas of responsibility
- Set strategic direction for OHS&W, aligned with SJGHC’s mission, values, and clinical and workforce priorities.
- Lead a national OHS&W function through a business partnering model, ensuring capability uplift, consistency of practice, and accountability across all services.
- Oversee governance and risk by developing critical risk controls, leading assurance activities, and driving improvements based on audit and incident insights.
- Champion caregiver wellbeing, with a strong focus on mental health, early intervention, and safe return to work practices.
- Maintain compliance and anticipate change by monitoring regulatory developments, industry benchmarks, and internal safety performance metrics to inform proactive decision-making.
- Partner and advise senior leaders, the Executive Team, and the SJGHC Board on safety trends, risk exposures, and strategic priorities.
About you
- You bring extensive OHS&W experience in large, complex organisations.
- You hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
- You have a strong track record in leading organisational safety strategy, managing enterprise risk, and driving large-scale change.
- You are a credible and thoughtful communicator, capable of engaging executive stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and frontline teams.
- You are committed to both safety and wellbeing, recognising that physical and psychological health are equally critical to organisational performance.
