About the Role:

The Health Promotion Officer role will contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the BHS Community Health-Health Promotion Plan in accordance with Department of Health (D of H) guidelines and the needs of the community.

The position will provide:

  • Effective leadership and coordination of Health Promotion and community-based programs within the Primary Health Team, Beechworth Health Service and of the BHS catchment area.
  • Programs to optimise health outcomes through delivering planned and appropriate population-based health promotion actions that enhance and enable physical, social, cultural and psychological wellbeing.
  • Evidence-based health promotion, community and stakeholder awareness raising, skills development and knowledge and develop and implement disease prevention initiatives.
  • Planning utilising placed based prevention principles and application of systems thinking to develop solutions improving health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Work with partners to build community level prevention systems which support the health and wellbeing of the local community.

About You:

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Degree and/or minimum of 3 years relevant experience in health, Health Promotion, project management, public health, community development
  • Ability to work in a team environment and liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate strategic, operational, program and project plans using a variety of methodology and tools.
  • Understanding of principles and importance of community engagement and participation and Systems thinking and collective impact.
  • Understanding of social determinants of health and health inequity experienced by diverse populations and communities, including rural and remote.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading effective and positive collective impact to achieve shared outcomes in a health promotion framework.
  • Experience in effective planning including shared measurement in monitoring and evaluation, with the ability to align plans, goals and outcomes across sectors.
  • Skills and experience in data analysis and advocacy relating to access and equity for diverse populations.
  • Excellent organisational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy skills, including Microsoft 365 suite and social media platforms
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of applying health literacy principles.
  • An understanding of contemporary practice in consumer and community engagement including, but not limited to, the IAP2 framework

Desirable:

  • Relevant experience in rural or regional setting.
  • Experience in grant application and administration.
  • Budgeting and financial accountability
