Why this role matters
At The Salvation Army, we believe in walking alongside those facing life’s most difficult challenges. As a Homelessness Worker within our Housing Pathways Program (Courts), you will play a vital role in breaking the cycle of homelessness and reducing re-offending for court-referred individuals. If you're passionate about creating genuine change, this is more than a job — it's your opportunity to contribute to a movement that cares deeply for people and works for justice every single day.
About the role
You will support clients referred through the justice system, helping them to overcome the complex barriers that contribute to homelessness. Through trauma-informed, client-led case management, you’ll assess housing needs, develop tailored support plans, and connect individuals to life-changing services — all with compassion, integrity, and respect.
Reporting to the Housing Pathways Program (Courts) Manager, this is a permanent full-time position, based in Ballarat, VIC.
Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.
You will successfully
  • Assess and address immediate and long-term housing needs for clients on bail
  • Advocate for access to housing options and support services
  • Create and review individual case plans in collaboration with clients
  • Provide outreach and case management support in line with TSA models of care
  • Work closely with Court Services Victoria, housing providers, and external services
  • Assist clients impacted by family violence to access support packages
  • Promote culturally safe, inclusive and accessible service delivery
You will have
  • A degree (or relevant qualification with substantial experience) in Social Work or a related community services field
  • Sound knowledge of the homelessness sector, systems and legislation
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, including those in contact with the justice system
  • Excellent networking and advocacy skills
  • An understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural safety practices
  • A valid VIC Driver's Licence
  • A current and valid Employee Working with Children's Check
What we offer
  • Salary packaging benefits of up to $15,900 + $2,650 meal and entertainment
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave entitlements
  • Health and well-being initiatives, including Employee Assistance Program
  • Ongoing training, leadership development, and career growth opportunities
  • Work in a values-driven organisation making a tangible difference in people’s lives
At The Salvation Army, we celebrate the strength found in diversity and welcome applications from people of all cultural backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and lived experiences. We are also proudly a child safe organisation committed to the well-being and protection of children and young people.
