Salary package: $134,812 - $141,252 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Term: Full time, Continuing (Contingent Funded)

Position overview
The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is Australia’s peak infrastructure for research data. Funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) At the ARDC, we’re accelerating Australian research and innovation by driving excellence in the creation, analysis and retention of high-quality data assets. We partner with the research community and industry to build leading-edge digital research infrastructure.
The ARDC strategy puts the researcher at the centre. Our purpose is to provide Australian researchers with competitive advantage through data. This is reflected in the matrix structure of the organisation which groups staff into Business Units (Outreach, National Coordination Services and Operations) and Strategic Pillars.
The Manager, Expertise is responsible for the line management of staff within the team. The role provides strong, collaborative leadership that supports and empowers staff, fosters open communication, shared decision making and a culture of trust built on the ARDC’s values. Operating within the ARDC’s matrix structure, the Manager, Expertise is responsible for the efficient allocation of team resources to large focus areas that deliver on the ARDC’s strategy. The role supports and manages individual and team performance, balances staff workloads and facilitates appropriate professional development opportunities.
Alongside team management responsibilities, the Manager, Expertise is also a practitioner whose skills and specialist expertise in digital research infrastructure will be applied to the ARDC’s thematic Research Data Commons. The balance between management and practitioner responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the Director, National Coordination.
The Manager, Expertise will:
- Build a high performing team through collaborative leadership that supports and empowers staff, fosters open communication, shared decision making and a culture of trust built on the ARDC’s values.
- Drive delivery of the ARDC’s strategy by planning and managing resource allocation to meet strategic focus areas, balancing staff workloads and working and working closely with other Managers to address resource contention.
- Lead by example a practitioner in a specialist area of expertise in digital research infrastructure, contributing to national scale multi-partner programs and projects
- Collaborate with other Managers and the Senior Leadership team to collectively deliver the ARDC’s strategy
- Foster relationships and partnerships across the digital research ecosystem, ensuring access to the latest knowledge and developments in digital research infrastructure.
