What will this role achieve?
The National Business Manager (“NBM”) is responsible for joint value creation (“JVC”) between pladis and its’ customers, and will be ultimately accountable for the commercial delivery of the pladis business plans across ANZ grocery retail customers.
The role will develop an aligned 3-year Category Growth Strategy that marries pladis category plans with customer category plans to deliver joint value creation for both parties. This will require customer engagement and alignment to opportunities identified by working cross functionally and cross regionally within pladis globally.
The NBM will then be responsible for the development and flawless implementation of annual Joint Category Plans (JCP’s) with pladis customers that align to the 3-year Category Growth Strategy. This will include integrated activity planning to align a suite of initiatives that connect consumer, brand, shopper and customer opportunities to maximise value creation. Careful consideration of channel and portfolio strategies will be required, along with collaborative business planning and superior negotiation skills.
The roles report directly to the Commercial Director Sales ANZ
What will be your key deliverables?
Drive Joint Value Creation (JVC) between pladis and its customers by creating an aligned 3-Year Category Growth Strategy and annual Joint Category Plans (JCP’s):
- Drive customers to have longer term plans, whilst remaining agile to changing consumer/shopper insight as well as competitive landscape.
- Translate 3-year Category Growth Strategy for key customers into annual initiatives & base business plans – Joint Category Plans (JCP’s).
- Ensure customer buy in to the annual JCP’s
- Work cross functionally utilizing key internal stakeholders in the development of the plans.
- Ongoing development of the Category Growth strategy, feeding customer insight, strategy and objectives in to pladis internal strategic thinking.
Lead collaborative business planning, by facilitating collaborative planning cross functionally within pladis and the customer to deliver annual JCP’s and achieve optimal outcomes for all parties:
- Collaborative approach with key cross functional retail contacts to identify potential zones for collaboration (Cartology, Supply Chain, Online etc)
- Work with key contacts across all relevant functions to develop an annual cross functional engagement plan, utilizing functional experts within both businesses to drive collaboration and alignment for better results.
Deliver exceptional execution and implementation by proactively building and executing plans to ensure positive outcomes and enabling flawless implementation of all initiatives:
- Establish a business rhythm to track and measure the progress of agreed business plans (monthly, quarterly and 6 monthly).
- Ensure that engagement timings and matrix are clearly communicated to the wider team (who, what, where and when).
- Deliver flawless execution of all initiatives – eg: promo’s, ends, features, catalogues…and use of co-op spend.
Demonstrate superior negotiation skills, delivering the best outcomes for pladis whilst maintaining a ‘Win/Win’ relationship with customers:
- Develop a plan for key annual negotiations (eg: annual JCP plans, promotional programs, co-op spend plans, innovation launches etc).
- Implement cost price increases as required to maintain/grow pladis profitability – Achieve targeted pladis outcomes whilst maintaining strong retailer relationships.
- Gain agreement on MLOR requested changes to minimise stock write-off’s.
Deliver wins for pladis at all category updates/reviews:
- Compelling review presentations based on consumer, customer and category insights resulting in successful NPD ranging and increased distribution points for existing SKU’s.
- Deliver ranging decisions (ins and outs) from retailer within pladis required timelines to enable on-time delivery of NPD and minimise stock w/off’s of deleted SKU’s.
- Deliver the best shelf position and distribution outcomes for pladis by utilising IRI and other data at category updates/reviews.
Commercial Integration of pladis and customer functions and processes to ensure seamless execution:
- Own the commercial forecast for relevant customer
- Active participation at key business rhythm meetings to align internal and external forecasts, capture and manage risks and opportunities, and optimize forecast accuracy
- Constantly seeking better ways of working to drive value for both parties

- 5 – 8 Years Account management experience in FMCG in a concentrated retailer environment with track record of successful commercial outcomes
- Must have the right to work in Australia
- Education: Degree in Business Management or related field
- Superior negotiation skills
- Highly organized & capable of multi-tasking whilst managing conflicting priorities
- Strong problem solving and organizational management skills
- Strong commercial acumen, with a high attention to detail and the ability to analyze financial/P&L data
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint user with experience of data supplier software and a solid understanding of IRI/Nielsen data
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build networks and connections.
- Relationship oriented: investing in positive relationships and capable to be recognized as a trusted advisor who can and will coach and share expertise.
- Excellent communication skills and presentation skills – an ability to create a clear and concise message and tell a story
- Leadership – ability to lead and influence within a matrix organization
- Tenacity & resilience with a can-do, action orientated mindset. Proven resourcefulness to fast change, persistence in the face of setbacks, always rejuvenating and ahead of time.
