Primary objective
To provide technical, reprocessing and administrative support to operating theatres and Central Sterilising Supply Department at Katherine
Hospital to ensure patient safety and effective functioning of the work unit.
Context statement
Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, in the heart of the Big Rivers Region, the successful applicant will provide support
to the Central Sterilising Supply Department lead and nursing staff, under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager at Katherine
Hospital. The successful applicant will also be adept at working independently as required, have sound computer literacy in excel and word
and good communication skills. They will have strong work ethic and use initiative to seek out opportunities for improvement and to
support the team in efficient delivery of business needs and patient care.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Order theatre supplies and ensure that theatres remain well stocked under the direction of theatre nurses and Clinical Nurse Manager.
2. Support and perform decontamination and sterilisation of reusable surgical instruments and devices as per infection control guidelines
and other relevant standards.
3. Endoscope reprocessing as directed by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
4. Take responsibility of CSD and carry out functional and biological tests on sterilisers and other equipment in the absence of sterilisation
technician.
5. Adhere to the NT Health organisational chart.
6. Assist with other tasks as outlines by the Clinical Nurse Manager, Operating Theatre.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to work being undertaken in order
to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through professional work practices and role modelling behaviour in accordance with NT Health
values.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience working in a sterilisation department and/or operating theatres, with knowledge of the care and functioning of theatre
instruments, along with disinfection and sterilisation techniques.
2. Understanding of infection prevention, occupational health and safety and other Australian standards in an operating theatre and CSD
context.
3. Certificate III in Sterilisation Services.
4. Experience in ordering, restocking and administrative roles or ability to learn new tasks quickly.
5. Competent literacy, numeracy skills and basic computer literacy.
6. Well-developed interpersonal and communicative skills.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Certification and experience in endoscope reprocessing.
