Primary objective
Theatre Technician works as a member of the perioperative team by supporting theatre personnel to prepare the operating theatre
environment for procedures, including the positioning of the patient, whilst respecting and ensuring patient safety and dignity is
maintained at all times in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures and legislative regulations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure that Operating Theatre environment meet the current Infection Control and Australian College of Perioperative Nurses
(ACORN) standards.
2. Ensure patient's safety and comfort during their surgical procedure, through planning, preparation, setting up and maintenance of
equipment prior to and after surgery.
3. Ensure consistency and continuous workflow between the various Operating Theatre areas whilst practising exceptional customer
service and maintaining the high operational standards of the department.
4. Quickly and efficiently manage your caseload that directly affect the care of patients.
5. Assist in maintaining a safe work environment by reporting incidents or unsafe work practices, sites/ areas or equipment.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to apply Infection Control principles, manage waste and biohazard materials.
2. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team as a team member that supports productive working relationships and the
ability to follow directions given.
3. Demonstrated capacity to effectively organise and prioritise workloads and the ability to work in a physically demanding role.
4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable effective communication with health care professionals from diverse cultures, whilst
maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism
5. Demonstrated initiative, reliability and punctuality with ability to learn theoretical and manual requirements for the provision of surgical
services
6. Physical ability to carry out the manual requirements for the position.
7. Ability to work in close proximity to the peri operative environment, work shift work and wear peri operative attire.
8. Willingness to attain current Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Operating Theatre Support)
Desirable
1. Previous experience as a Theatre Technician desirable
