We’re entering an exciting phase of growth, and we’re looking for a Principal Transmission Lines Engineer to help us lead the way.
As the Principal Engineer for the Lines stream within AusNet’s Transmission Asset Management team, you’ll be at the forefront of reimagining our transmission infrastructure to enable Australia’s renewable energy transition. This role blends deep technical expertise with people leadership—driving innovation while empowering others.
You’ll provide strategic technical direction to optimise asset performance and ensure long-term network resilience. At the same time, you’ll mentor and inspire your team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
This hybrid role (Office/WFH) is based in Southbank, Melbourne, and sits within our Transmission Asset Management team.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Lead the Lines team within Transmission Asset Management, fostering technical excellence and team development
- Provide strategic, technical, and economic advice to guide asset decisions and long-term planning
- Develop and deliver CAPEX/OPEX work plans and asset strategies aligned with corporate goals
- Champion innovation and out-of-the-box thinking to enhance asset resilience and performance
- Guide risk management, compliance, and regulatory submissions for transmission lines
- Oversee condition assessments, scope development, and project initiation to maintain safety and reliability
- Lead the creation and refinement of asset specifications, maintenance strategies, and business cases
You don’t need to tick every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Degree qualified in Engineering (Electrical or Structural)
- Significant demonstrated years of engineering design / asset management experience
- In-depth knowledge of equipment, and technologies, with a focus on transmission lines and emerging trends and innovations
- Deep understanding of relevant Australian and International standards and industry codes of practice for transmission lines
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing strategic asset management plans, preferably in a regulated environment
- Knowledge of relevant condition monitoring and assessment techniques for transmission lines
- Knowledge of transmission line design standards and principles and construction experience
- Professional body membership: National Engineering Registration
