With a bright future ahead, we are seeking team members for our exciting Balranald operation where we will be deploying a new mining technology. Using remotely operated, novel underground mining (UGM) technology to extract key critical minerals. The technology we have developed enables access to ore bodies previously thought to be uneconomic - in future, we hope it brings potential to unlock other deep deposits of critical minerals, including those nearby to the Balranald project.
About the Location
Iluka’s Balranald operation is located approximately two hours by road from Mildura in regional NSW.
You can choose to reside locally, drive-in drive-out from towns within the regional area, or fly-in fly-out from Melbourne.
For South Australian residents we will mobilise you via road transport from our Iluka office in Adelaide.
About the Role
Reporting to the Environment, Rehab & Community Relations Superintendent, the Rehabilitation Advisor is accountable for overseeing site rehabilitation and research programs, ensuring effective and practical outcomes are achieved within budget and in keeping with Regulator and stakeholder commitments.
Additionally, the Rehabilitation Advisor proactively liaises with production and planning personnel to ensure land management and rehabilitation options are planned and considered as part of the mine development, closure, and decommissioning processes.
Your accountabilities will include:
- Implement the rehabilitation readiness plan for Balranald Operations to ensure progressive rehabilitation can be achieved as soon as reasonably practicable. (Seed storage facilities, seed collection contracts, equipment, contractors)
- Provide professional support to site personnel to ensure optimal and timely management of rehabilitation operations
- Identify future land management and rehabilitation issues requiring further evaluation and / or research – Initiate and oversee this work
- Consider and develop options to minimise the cost and environmental impact of mining and rehabilitation operations
- Assist in the development of decommissioning and closure plans for mine operations.
- In conjunction with the site Environment Advisor(s), develop and direct pre- and post-mining biological and ecological surveys in support of operational and closure impact assessments and reporting
- With site Mining Engineer(s)/Planner(s), facilitate planning for topsoil handling, landform contouring and overburden and topsoil return
- Commission suitable contractors and consultants to undertake re-vegetation works including pest and weed management onsite
- Contribute to and be an active member of the Iluka Best Practice Rehabilitation Group
- Planning and reporting to be completed on time to meet Iluka and regulatory requirements (e.g. Rehabilitation Report, Forward Program, Annual Review and submission of spatial data to regulator portal)
- Actively liaise with colleagues managing earthmoving activities to ensure operational alignment is maximised
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or equivalent
- Detailed knowledge of rehabilitation principles and rehabilitation techniques for ground disturbing activities
- Communicate and influence employees and contractors to facilitate rehabilitation management on site
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with teams and contractors, influencing work groups to achieve healthy and safe working practices and environments
- Capable GIS user (ArcGIS)
- Experience in project and contractor management
- Knowledge of NSW mining approvals legislation and processes, particularly requirements under the Mining Act 1992 Rehabilitation Regulation
- Current C Class Driver’s License
