About the opportunity

The Matilda Centre is seeking a motivated and talented Research Associate to join their dynamic team in the field of mental health research. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage with academic and professional partners and key stakeholders to undertake high-quality research with a focus on crisis supporter wellbeing. The successful candidate will have experience conducting original research and contributing to the dissemination of research outcomes, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals, while fostering a collaborative and positive workplace culture.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Conduct high-quality research in the field of mental health, independently or collaboratively, to advance knowledge within the discipline.
  • Develop and refine independent research skills under the guidance of senior academic staff, including designing studies, analysing data, and disseminating findings.
  • Preparation of high-quality scientific outputs including articles for publication in peer reviewed journals, reports, and presentations.
  • Preparation of applications to grant bodies and ethics committees.
  • Assist in all activities related to the conduct of the research, including in the reviewing and updating of research protocols and related documents, project management and reporting.
  • Assist in building and maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external collaborators and key-stakeholders.
  • Undertake administrative tasks and actively participate in Centre and Faculty meetings.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture aligned with the University and Faculty’s strategic goals.

About you

  • Bachelor’s Honours degree in Psychology and near completion of a PhD in a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting original research utilising a range of methodologies (e.g., qualitative and quantitative research, systematic reviews) with a strong preference for experience in the field of crisis supporter mental health.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and contributing to research evidence by producing original, high quality and independent research published in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong productive relationships with academic, industry, and professional partners.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff and stakeholders.

  • Proven planning, organisation, and computer literacy skills to support research, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

  • High-level organisational and time management skills, strong attention to detail, and a proven ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
