Overview of the Role

The Research Governance and Compliance Officer supports the integrity, efficiency, and compliance of NeuRA's research activities. This role provides operational support across ethics, governance, research compliance and activity reporting, and plays a critical part in ensuring legal and regulatory obligations are met.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

  • Coordinate and support the submission and tracking of human research ethics applications and amendments
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of ethics and governance approvals in relevant databases
  • Provide high-quality administrative and compliance checks for grant and ethics submissions
  • Liaise with external Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECS) and institutions to ensure that ethics approvals and site-specific authorisations (SSAs) requirements are met and maintained
  • Assist with the preparation of grant-related reports, including annual, mid-term, and financial reporting
  • Maintain scientific publication tracking, authorship records, and UNSW for Research Output System data entry for NeuRA
  • Manage student and visitor databases, enrolment tracking, and completions
  • Maintain NeuRA’s Office of the Gene Techology Regulator (OGTR) records and assist with GMO -related governance and reporting
  • Provide administrative support for the Healthy Volunteer Registry,ensuring ethical approvals are in place
  • Generate data for internal reporting, audits, and external compliance requirements
  • Support compliance training activities

Core Requirements and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in health, science, or a related field
  • Experience in research governance, grants or ethics administration
  • Familiarity with the Australia Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research
  • Familiarity with Australian ethics frameworks and OGTR compliance
  • Strong data management and reporting skills (e.g., relational databases, spreadsheets)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
