Primary objective
The Innovation Policy Officer will support the Northern Territory Government’s work to accelerate business innovation through
strategic engagement, analysis, and coordination. This includes representing the NT in intergovernmental science and research
forums, preparing briefings and policy materials, identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, and managing stakeholder
engagement with research, industry, and higher education organisations.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Represent the NT Government at national innovation, research and science policy forums.
2. Identify and assess Commonwealth and private sector funding opportunities aligned with Territory priorities.
3. Develop high-quality briefings, submissions, and reports for a range of government audiences.
4. Support development of policies and strategies to advance business innovation through science, remote health, housing, energy

and research.
5. Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders across government, research institutions, industry, and communities.
6. Coordinate and contribute to stakeholder consultations and working groups.
7. Track and advise on trends in national and international science and innovation policy relevant to the Territory.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience in science, research, or innovation policy, preferably in a government or strategic role.
2. Excellent written communication skills, including policy writing, funding submissions, and ministerial briefings.
3. Strong stakeholder engagement and intergovernmental liaison skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to identify and articulate funding and partnership opportunities.
5. High-level analytical, research, and strategic thinking capability.
6. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
7. A team player, able to work as part of a small multidisciplinary team.

Desirable
1. Relevant qualifications.
2. Understanding of Commonwealth research and innovation funding systems (e.g. NRF, MRFF, ARC, CEFC).
3. Knowledge of Northern Territory development priorities and the challenges of remote service delivery.
4. Experience working with Aboriginal organisations or in cross-cultural environments.
