Selection Criteria

  • Experience and qualification in social work or other relevant field which includes individual counselling of teenagers (preferably experience in a school environment)
  • The capacity to support health promotion program in a school environment
  • A commitment to the College vision and values, initiative, high levels of personal energy and drive
  • Demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and apply skills and knowledge derived from recent professional development that is student centred
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills which demonstrate a capacity to resolve problems, show a commitment to fostering caring and positive human relationships with all members of the College learning community and demonstrate an ability to work with and contribute to building effective teams.

Role

  • Respond to wellbeing needs in accordance with the wellbeing process's and policies of the school.
  • Respond to wellbeing referrals and allocate them appropriately amongst the wellbeing team
  • Identify, assess, guide and provide individual counselling for students at educational or personal risk including case management where appropriate
  • Liaise and disseminate information for students engaged with wellbeing to relevant teachers and college staff including; Wellbeing Coordinator, Principal team, Director of Students, Year Level Leaders and Classroom teachers.
  • Attend and coordinate Care Team meetings for students with significant mental health concerns or living in out of home care.
  • Record thorough case notes on compass system and store or share in accordance with wellbeing processes
  • Facilitate and coordinate referrals and appointments for External Psychologists after consultation with Wellbeing Coordinator
  • Make appropriate referrals for students to external providers based upon their needs
  • Make appropriate referrals for parents/guardians/families to external agencies based upon their needs
  • Identify relevant PD to enhance the skills of the wellbeing team in consultation with wellbeing coordinator
  • Participate in weekly wellbeing team and subschool meetings as required
  • Identify, source and facilitate relevant programs to support wellbeing needs of students and college e.g. peer support
  • Support the Student Wellbeing Coordinator to promote the Respectful Relationships program. Work with curriculum leaders, subschools and others to run programs, events, raise awareness and promote mental health.

Responsibilities

The structure of Glen Waverley Secondary College incorporates a Student Wellbeing team who assumes responsibility for supporting the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and physical needs for all students. The Wellbeing team is primary responsible for the implementation of wellbeing process and policies. In addition, the wellbeing team liaises with parents and external agencies. The Student Wellbeing team ensures that processes are in place to meet the wellbeing needs of the students at the College. They oversee the range of wellbeing programs at the College and identify areas for improvement, and source or develop additional resources/programs to meet these needs.
