About the role – Multiple Casual Positions Available!
Join the WestCare Centre team as a Support Worker and make a real impact in the lives of people experiencing homelessness, hardship, and social isolation. WestCare Centre is a welcoming community hub in the heart of the city, providing meals, hygiene facilities, and access to housing and health services. In this hands-on role, you will build trust with clients, offer practical support and referrals, assist with outreach, and help maintain a safe and respectful environment. Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Build rapport with clients and provide brief support, referrals, and advocacy based on their needs.
- Assist with outreach to rough sleepers, offering information, assessments, and support to access housing and health services.
- Monitor client behaviour to ensure a safe and welcoming environment at the Centre.
- Support daily operations, including cleaning, meal service, and maintaining service standards.
About you:
You are a compassionate and resilient individual with a strong commitment to supporting people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Your understanding of trauma-informed care, along with your ability to stay calm under pressure, allows you to effectively manage challenging behaviours. You work well both independently and as part of a team, bringing empathy, reliability, and a non-judgemental approach to every interaction.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- Certificate IV in Community Services or similar
- Extensive relevant experience will be considered in lieu of qualification
- Demonstrated understanding of issues relating to people who have experienced homelessness and marginalisation
- Experience in providing services to marginalised people experiencing homelessness, addiction or mental health issues.
