Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will provide effective leadership of the Technical Services team to deliver best practice technical support and mine planning for the mine.
- Liaise with the operations teams to ensure targets are delivered in accordance with the forecast
- Facilitate solutions to technical and operational problems
- Lead other technical services functions, including Survey, and Geology
- Act as the technical advisor on mine support and mine planning issues to the Technical Services Manager, providing strategic mine development advice on how to safely optimize the value of the mine resources
- Oversee and coordinate the development and review of the mine schedule and provision of support services (Survey and Geology)
- Maintain the mine design and scheduling processes through short, and medium planning, to support efficient and productive operations, including production reporting and reconciliations.
Qualifications
- Open Cut Coal mining experience is desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or equivalent.
- RPEQ Qualification desirable
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of professionals to deliver against targets
- Astute business acumen and ability to multi-task and prioritize conflicting deadlines and priorities
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills as well as the ability to drive performance
- Proficiency with Deswik and SPRY is desirable
- Working knowledge in dragline design is highly desirable
