About the opportunity:
Aurizon Network is seeking applications from safety focused, flexible and enthusiastic applicants to join the team as Trainee Track Protection Officers, based in either Sarina or Rockhampton. These positions are 18-month fixed term full time position, with the ability to move to permanent once the traineeship has been completed for the right candidates.
Our Worksite Protection team specialise in track protection and are responsible for ensuring the safety of workers on track. We cover a wide range of customers both internal and external across the Network.
We excel managing multiple workgroups with rail traffic within those sites. We travel to over 25 shutdown closures throughout the year, across all systems with the longest being 5 days!
One of the biggest challenges with obtaining track protection is the vast distances we must cover. To manage this teamwork is key executing Safety Critical Communication & Network Lockout with Network Control, Responsible Workers and other Protection Officers.
As you develop into the role you will support the current Protection Officers in managing an allocated worksite proactively and autonomously to ensure safe working incidents do not occur.
What are we looking for?
- Fantastic attitude and a strong commitment to safety
- Ability to work away extensively on a roster that is subject to change – you may be away from home for up to 10 days at a time!
- Ability to work dayshift, nightshift and weekends
- Flexibility with rosters – can be a mix of 9 days on, 5 off or 5 days on and 2 off.
- Enjoy being on the road – this role involves frequent driving and travel to various sites – ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their work environment!
- You must want to work in the outdoors in all weather and able to work as part of a small team.
- To be successful in this role you need to complete testing, a medical, reference checks and hold a C-Class QLD Manual drivers’ licence or minimum P2 (preferred)
