About the School

Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre is a multi-campus Department of Education school located within South-East Queensland's Youth Detention Centres at Wacol. The school supports male and female students from across Queensland who are on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. As a Transition Officer, you will help students successfully move from detention into education, training, or employment. This role involves working closely with students, carers, government partners, and community agencies to support positive futures.

About The Role

As a Transition Officer at Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre, you will support students transitioning from detention into education or employment by building strong relationships and developing tailored transition plans. Working closely with stakeholders, you will attend case reviews, maintain clear documentation, and coordinate support to help students achieve and sustain successful placements. This role operates across all three campuses of Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre and is key to meeting placement and outcome targets.

Your Responsibilities

As the Transition Officer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Plan and facilitate the transition to employment, training, and/or educational settings for students in youth detention, in collaboration with students and relevant stakeholders.
Establish rapport and maintain resilient relationships with students to motivate their engagement in learning, as appropriate to the student's individual circumstances, to enable successful transition plan outcomes.
Be accountable for assigned cases to progress transition plans, including undertaking appropriate case management, advocacy, and support; prioritising the daily caseload; communicating with transition partners and students; and implementing agreed approaches.
Communicate expectations of the transition program to students and stakeholders, as required, to develop their understanding of career and learning pathways and to promote the importance of continued education for students while in detention.

The successful applicant will be able to implement strategies and programs to improve the transition outcomes of young people who may have had varied schooling experiences and demonstrate a proven capacity to work effectively with them to address their future learning, training, and employment pathways.
