Primary objective
Provide care, supervision and support to vulnerable young people with complex behaviours residing at the Youth Supported Bail facility,
Department of Corrections. Participate in culturally safe programs including education, activities and services which enhance, support and
encourage young people’s positive social development and welfare to support effective reintegration into the community.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide supervision and support for individuals within Barkly Region, Youth Justice, Department of Corrections.
2. Participate in a 24 hour/7 days per week roster program and actively take part in rostered activities.
3. Apply protocols and procedures in the care and supervision of young people as prescribed, taking a proactive approach in reporting issues

and incidents to prevent harm and enhance planned group and individual needs.
4. Participate in or lead programs to meet treatment and care plan requirements.
5. Willingness to assist in the preparation of relevant documentation such as assessments, case reports, court reports, and affidavits.
6. Ensure feedback and monitoring processes are followed to ensure case management and other requirements can be met.
7. Support high quality service provision and participate in supervision, performance management and continuing training and professional

development.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure

high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Participate as a constructive team member and foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary practice and positive, strong role

modelling.
10. Adopt a principled approach and adheres to the Department of Corrections values and Code of Conduct at all times.
11. Contribute to quality practice and safety improvement discussions.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people with highly complex behaviours including an understanding of child and

adolescent development, issues with alcohol and drug use, poverty, cultural identity, mental health and disability.
2. In-depth knowledge of the supervision requirements of young people, including treatment and practice protocols and procedures in use

within the team, and when to escalate issues.
3. Knowledge of child and adolescent development models and theories including trauma informed practice and working knowledge of de-

escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
4. Well-developed teamwork, consultative, collaborative skills and experience in the supervision of and providing services to young people.
5. Experience working within standards (Policy and Procedures) service delivery models and regulatory frameworks, as they apply to young

people in care.
6. High level of personal integrity and ethical standards to ensure ability to demonstrate exemplary behaviour reflective of the department’s

values and Code of Conduct.
7. Hold completed MAYBO (conflict management and physical intervention) training certificate or possess the ability and willingness to

undertake this training prior to commencement in the role.
8. Participate in the Department’s rostered After-Hours Service and assist in delivering the Department’s statutory responses in accordance

with the Emergency Management Act.
9. Preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles and light planes as required and ability to undertake travel including overnight stays as necessary.
10. Current C class driver’s licence

Desirable
1. Qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Services, Case Management or similar.
2. Senior First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation with a minimum of 6 months validity or ability to acquire.
