About the role
Wesley Mission’s GambleAware program provides a stepped, multimodal, individualised approach to supporting individuals impacted by problematic gambling as well as those who are at risk of developing harmful gambling behaviours. As part of an integrated service model, the role of the Triage Intake Support Officer is designed to provide brief, solution focused, phone-based support to individuals and family members who are experiencing gambling harm, as well as providing clear pathways, support options and referrals to local providers, for those seeking ongoing assistance and treatment. All staff within Harm Reduction & Counselling Services, work hard to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships in an autonomous-supportive work environment where they are all trained to be the best in their field.

The Triage Intake Support Officer plays a crucial role in the initial stages of client engagement in service delivery. This position involves managing the intake process, including client registration, scheduling, data management, and initial assessment coordination. The role is essential in ensuring that clients are smoothly transitioned into the counselling services, providing a welcoming and organized experience.

Essential skills/knowledge

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in community services, social work, Counselling or related field
  • Experience in assessments and intake processes
  • Demonstrated skills and experience using brief, solution focused therapies
  • Engage clients and Families with empathy and sensitivity, clearly explaining services, rights and the intake process
  • Manage Client calls and provides appropriate cultural information and referrals.
  • Co-ordinate and book initial assessments or appointments, ensuring responsiveness to client needs and timelines
  • Identify and document risk factors
  • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating counsellor appointments to meet the needs of the client
  • Work and collaborate with the GambleAware Team to determine appropriate service, level of care and initial treatment planning
  • Ensure and contribute to providing quality services to our clients, meeting our KPI’s and requirements by providing appropriate assessments, scheduling appointments, supported referrals as necessary and providing information in an effective and timely manner.
  • Provide brief, solution focused phone counselling in line with funding requirements at point of contact (using Accidental Counselling Skills)
  • Experience using electronic client management systems and databases
  • Cultural competence and experience working alongside Culturally diverse and First Nations families
  • Holds current working with children’s check and a valid police / criminal history check

Desirable criteria

  • Experience and training in addiction and/ or gambling counselling
