About the position

Council’s Environmental Policy and planning team is looking for an Urban Greening Planner who will be responsible for reviewing landscape development plans, supporting the development of environmental strategies promoting urban greening and biodiversity protection and driving the delivery of urban greening initiatives that increase tree canopy and enhance biodiversity.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and setting requirements for landscape plans in line with planning scheme requirements and Council's objective to create greener and cooler places.
  • Supporting and delivering actions from Council’s Biodiversity Action Plan and Urban Forest Action Plan.
  • Assist in the development of policies, strategies, and planning conditions to improve greening outcomes across the municipality.


This is a full time role working 38 hours per week.

About you

  • Relevant experience in environmental planning, landscape assessment, or urban greening initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and engage meaningfully with the community.
  • Technical expertise in interpreting planning policy, landscape design standards, and environmental legislation.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • A current Victorian Driver Licence and Working with Children Check.

This position is a Band 6 currently remunerated at $100,338 per annum, plus superannuation. Overtime will also be paid as required.
