About Us

The Youth Justice Team provides community-based supervision and a range of case management and support services for young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children's Court, Children's Koori Court, and adult criminal courts and who have been placed on youth justice supervised orders. The team promotes the personal development of young offenders and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.

About the Role

The Youth Justice Court Advice Service (YJCAS) provides knowledge and expertise that is valuable to the court and others in criminal proceedings involving young people. The Youth Justice Court Advice Worker forms part of the Youth Justice Court Advice Service (YJCAS) based in the North Metropolitan Area.

Responsibilities include;

  • Providing advice and recommendations regarding deferral of sentencing, adjournments for pre-sentence reports or sentencing orders
  • Bail supervision assessments
  • Identifying appropriate diversionary options or completing referrals to community support services
  • Providing information or reports about a child currently involved with Youth Justice to the court on behalf of Youth Justice

About You

  • advanced understanding of the Youth Justice system and its underlying philosophies
  • understanding of the principles of case management and case work
  • experience and/or knowledge of court and bail processes and assessments
  • strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels
  • good problem solving skills
  • demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
