What you'll be doing
The Sydney Children's Hospital Network is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of children who may be at risk of harm due to neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and domestic violence through excellence and leadership in assessment, treatment, prevention, education, advocacy and research.
The Aboriginal Health Clinician, Child Protection and Wellbeing will work from a strength-based, family centred, culturally appropriate and trauma informed approach. This role will provide therapeutic and casework services to children and young people, and their family members. Working with vulnerable children and young people within a highly supportive multidisciplinary team, this role will provide quality services to patients/clients of NSW Health to meet their health and wellbeing needs.
It is intended that the Aboriginal Health Clinician, Child Protection and Wellbeing will partner with community to develop a deeper understanding and awareness of child wellbeing needs and support their engagement with therapeutic services that Health can provide, including services around child sexual assault and care and protection.
The Aboriginal Health Clinician, Child Protection and Wellbeing position will be a valued member of the CPU teams across both Randwick and Westmead. The position will have a home-base site, with travel across both sites for consultation, therapeutic and casework services supported through hospital pool vehicles.
The role requires engagement in both cultural and clinical supervision, which is provided, with opportunities for further education and training. Professional development plans will be in place to allow for workplace progression. The role will be embedded within the Child Protection Units, with clear connection within the Priority Populations stream and within the Aboriginal Health workforce across Sydney Children's Hospital Network.
NSW Health provides integrated violence, abuse and neglect services to clients, specifically for those who may have experience the trauma of sexual assault and domestic violence. NSW Health seeks to provide a culturally safe sexual assault service (SAS) for people from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal families and communities.
