About the role
We are seeking applications from experienced and highly motivated Aboriginal Health Workers – Transition to Practice to join our skilled and supportive team. This role works as key member of the multi-disciplinary team to provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive primary health care services, including direct clinical care, to Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities to achieve better health access and outcomes while they work towards meeting requirements for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.

The Aboriginal Health Unit at Lightning Ridge MPS provides a crucial link between the Multi Purpose Service and the community. They are essential in establishing and building relationships between Aboriginal patients and care clinicians to achieve best patient outcomes. They deliver culturally appropriate and clinically competent health care and health education to patients, and assist in providing education to staff across the Health Service to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery.

The successful applicant must be willing to work towards obtaining a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) within 2.5yrs of commencement of employment, complete clinical placements and work towards AHPRA standards to meet registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.

You will be supported by orientation to the role, and supported throughout your learning, growth and development.

You will receive assistance with travel and accommodation to attend TAFE blocks.

  • The successful applicant will be appointed temporarily for a period of 2 years in the position of Aboriginal Health Worker Transition to Practice and upon successfully meeting the qualification requirements of an AHPRA registered Aboriginal Health Practitioner as per the NSW Health Aboriginal Health Worker (State) Award they will be transitioned to this level and appointed to the position on a permanent basis. In the event that the employee does not meet the requirements by the end of their 2-year temporary appointment to the Aboriginal Health Practitioner level, their progress will need to be formally reviewed under a performance improvement framework and they will cease to be employed under the transition program.
  • This recruitment may be used to create an Eligibility List for similar roles in the future (ongoing or temporary).
