The Role
training and preparation of the canines from birth to graduation on MWD Basic Course. We are looking for someone with experience working with and training working dogs. This includes proven experience in tracking, obedience, detection and bite training disciplines. Providing day to day care of the canines kennelled at RAAF Security and Fire School, including maintenance of kennels, exercise and training areas, including allocated white fleet vehicles.
You will be accountable to monitor and manage development and performance data capture, along with administration of operational tasks, including canine husbandry and training activities. You will manage the workflow and be accountable to maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance with relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. You will have proven experience in utilising modern canine training concepts in obedience, tracking, detection and bite disciplines.
You will be able to demonstrate experience working with dogs in decoy work with the use of bite suits and hidden sleeve along with other specialised Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during these training exercises. Specific training in support of the successful candidate to attend to all their duties within the role will be provided to ensure successful assimilation into the Canine Supply Flight.
About our Team
The APS Canine Supply Team are responsible for the entire life cycle of canines bred or purchased by the RAAF Security and Fire School. The role involves participating in canine development, training and care for canines within the Canine Supply area. The team work in collaboration with ADF trainers and contracted cleaning staff to meet Military Working Dog course requirements. The team interacts with the clients and stakeholders through public displays, puppy fostering program, canine health and welfare programs. They are required to build and maintain positive relationships.

The role is physical and hands-on, therefore the successful candidate will require a high level of physical fitness to be able to perform all the duties.
