National Archives is seeking a suitably skilled person to lead on National Archives’ International Engagement activities. The successful candidate will build and maintain international relationships to advance the international engagement policy objectives of the organisation.

About the role

The Access and Public Engagement Branch is the public face of the National Archives of Australia, delivering reference, description and research services, examination for the release of records in the open period, exhibition, education and public programs, publishing (including digital publishing), marketing, partnerships and events on site at national and state offices, and online. All programs and activities support the key National Archives’ role of providing an accessible, visible and interpreted national archival collection.

The Communication, Marketing Partnerships and Events section is responsible for promoting and profiling National Archives of Australia through brand management, marketing, media, social media, strategic partnerships, corporate events, retail activities and the NAA Member Program. The section supports National Archives’ key role of providing an accessible, visible and interpreted national archival collection.

The Assistant Director will lead on National Archives’ International Engagement activities. Under broad direction the main duties of the role are to:

  • Build and maintain international relationships to advance the international engagement policy objectives of the organisation.
  • Develop and implement relevant policies, procedures and protocols, identify opportunities and align international engagement activities with the strategic objectives of the organisation.
  • Coordinate international visits, ranging from international archives and relevant institutions to high profile political delegations.
  • Coordinate and oversee international prokects and collaborations to ensure effective delivery and the achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Build and maintain effective, professional relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, both national and international, such as cultural institutions, government agencies, privatew businesses and individuals.
  • Deliver the administrative tasks related to the international engagement function.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Promote and apply the National Archives' Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025-2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values.

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
