Location - Parramatta with flexible/hybrid options (Wed & Thu in the Parramatta office. At least 50% of work time in a DCJ workplace)

Employment type – Temporary full-time role for 12 months with the possibility of an extension

Salary - $99,938.00 pa - $110,271.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading


Your role


As our new Assistant Project Officer, you will work closely with BOCSAR executives and the Reporting and Insights team to ensure efficient communication, coordination, and administration. The Assistant Project Officer is responsible for a range of tasks, including responding to enquiries, drafting correspondence, managing office administration and finance, maintaining business records, and supporting the preparation of reports.


What you’ll do


The Assistance Project Officer will work across a range of tasks, often with competing demands.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:


  • Respond to departmental requests for information.
  • Act as an interdepartmental liaison
  • Provide administrative support to Applied Research in Crime and Justice Conference team
  • Manage and process expenditure and invoicing (SAP Finance system)
  • Digital records management (TRIM or similar system)
  • Responding to general enquiries
  • Booking meetings and events
  • Prepare correspondence
  • Update reports and records

About us


The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) is a business unit within the Department of Communities and Justice. BOCSAR is responsible for informing both the public and government about trends and patterns in crime and the criminal justice system. We do this through the release of statistical and research reports, evaluation of programs and policies, fulfillment of ad hoc data requests, and conducting both simple and complex statistical analyses to improve understanding.

BOCSAR also builds and maintains a wide range of statistical databases covering areas such as crime, criminal courts, prisons, youth detention, and reoffending behaviour.


At BOCSAR, we are committed to transparency and open access to information. We continually seek to improve how we share data and insights, adding value to justice statistics to support better understanding and encourage evidence-based decision-making.


The Assistant Project Officer is a key member of the Reporting and Insights Team. This is a small and highly collaborative team, working together to provide timely and accurate information to our internal and external clients.


What we’re looking for


In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must demonstrate capabilities in:


  • the use of TRIM record management system (or similar).
  • the use of SAP Finance system (or similar).
  • the use of MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Commitment to customer service.
  • Oral and written communication and liaison skills.
