The Strategic Medical Operations Unit has been created to establish a new locum medical workforce sourcing business within NSW Health. This new business unit will directly engage medical locums, reducing reliance on third-party agencies and improving cost control and overall system quality. The Unit will establish an innovative environment for NSW Health to attract and retain its medical workforce with a focus on providing a new level of flexibility as well as providing central strategic and operational management of this important workforce

About the role

The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the development of an exciting new business unit in the Workforce Planning and Talent Development portfolio within NSW Health.
The Strategic Medical Operations Unit will establish the capability for NSW Health to source its own medical locum workforce as well as provide centralised management of this important workforce. The Unit will also explore innovative and flexible ways to engage with doctors to enhance current attraction and retention strategies.
The Associate Director role involves managing all unit workstreams to support the Director to deliver against the agency's strategic objectives.
The position will play a key leadership role in the development phase of the Unit and will drive the recruitment and selection of the agency's operational team, to equip the Unit for long term success in a complex healthcare environment.
Health Manager level 6, starting salary from $182,575- $199,405 plus Superannuation, with a 40-hour work week, work location- 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards
What you'll be doing
- Supporting the Director to establish the Unit’s governance structure and business processes in alignment with the strategic goals of the business - overseeing the implementation of a large number of new processes and systems in a complex environment
- Lead the project team and oversee project planning, including establishing timelines, reporting mechanisms and establishing and maintaining a risk management register
- Direct each of the unit workstreams managers to ensure project milestones are achieved
- Oversee the procurement and management of external expertise to support the team to deliver against its strategic goals
- Liaise and manage relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. including Ministry of Health divisions, Local Health Districts, Specialty Health Networks, Locum Agencies and clinicians.
About you
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in managing high level strategic and cross organisational initiatives.
- Demonstrate ability to manage staff effectively to achieve strategic objectives.
- Demonstrate project management, planning and risk management skills.
- Demonstrate excellent problem solving, analytical and evaluation skills.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and consultation skills with an ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders across NSW Health.
