About the Role

As the Aboriginal Counsellor within the New Street team, you will play a vital and multifaceted role in supporting children and young people aged 10–17 who have engaged in sexually harmful behaviour. Your primary focus will be on early intervention, delivering culturally safe and trauma-informed counselling that promotes healing, safety, and positive, long-lasting change.

You will work closely with the young people and their families, providing support to strengthen family relationships and enhance overall family functioning. Engaging meaningfully with Aboriginal communities on Darkinjung Country, you will build trust and foster greater access to services, ensuring cultural knowledge and community perspectives remain central to all aspects of care. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute your clinical expertise and cultural insight to create a supportive environment that values continuous learning, cultural safety, and holistic wellbeing.

About You

  • This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such.

  • You bring cultural strength and safety into your work, and can lead or support cultural conversations within a team.

  • You hold a current NSW driver’s licence.

  • You’re open to learning and growth, including specialised training in trauma, counselling and violence prevention (with full support from the team).
