About the role:
The Counsellor is primarily responsible for the provision of counselling services to Deaf and hard of hearing children, adults and families. The Counsellor is expected to work within a flexible, interdisciplinary structure alongside other allied health professionals to ensure clients’ needs are met and supported, as well as providing guidance to colleagues in the Therapy and Family Services team.
The Counsellor will work in a variety of settings, which may include the Deaf Connect office; clients’ homes; community settings such as childcare centres, kindergartens, and schools; and telepractice for clients in remote locations.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
Planning and delivering programs that meet your clients’ needs
Providing timely and effective clinical support
Keeping clear and up-to-date case notes and reports
Working closely with Therapy and Family Services team members
Respecting client privacy and following ethical guidelines at all times
About you:
In your application, let us know if you have these key skills and experience:
Qualifications in Counselling and current registration with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
Minimum of 2 years' experience supporting individuals with mental health concerns or diagnosed mental health conditions.
Knowledge of mental health best practice in relation to prevention, early identification, treatment and rehabilitation.
Current Queensland Blue Card and NDIS Worker Clearance.
Current QLD drivers license.
Understanding of Deaf people, culture and community.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
Auslan fluency and ability to understand all styles of Deaf communication at all levels.

Ability to manage and prioritize a case load, meeting timelines in a responsive manner by adjusting priorities according to changing needs and urgent matters.
