WeKare Disability Services is seeking to employ a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Support Workers to join our dedicated team in Perth. The successful candidates will work closely with participants who have complex mental health needs. Support Workers will be responsible for providing exceptional care and support to individuals with behaviours of concern, including delusions, hallucinations, inappropriate behaviour, and other mental health challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide person-centered support to participants with mental health conditions, particularly schizophrenia.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using proven techniques and strategies.
- Assist with the development and implementation of individualised care plans.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment that encourages independence and dignity.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, including clinicians, Behaviour Practitioners, Occupational Therapist, mental health professionals, psychologists, and family members, to ensure holistic care.
- Document and report progress, changes in behaviour, and incidents accurately in line with organisational policies.
- Promote mental well-being and support participants in managing their daily routines and activities.
Key Requirements:
- Significant experience in mental health support, particularly working with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and other serious mental health conditions.
- Expertise in managing challenging behaviours, including the use of escalation techniques.
- Knowledge and experience in supporting individuals with delusions, hallucinations, and inappropriate behaviours.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both participants and a multidisciplinary team.
- A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to care.
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Community Services, or equivalent (desirable).
- Valid working with children and vulnerable people clearance (or willingness to obtain).
- NDIS Screening Check
- Current first aid certificate
- Police check
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred.
