About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for the position of Estimating Team Leader within the Network Investment and Maintenance team. This role is responsible for leading the estimation function across both capital and maintenance programs, ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of construction work orders, compatible unit assemblies, and activity estimates that support the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of our network investment.
As an Estimating Team Leader, you will oversee the end-to-end coordination of estimation processes, ensuring that each estimate accurately reflects the required effort, materials, and financial investment. You will work closely with stakeholders across planning, design, and delivery to ensure estimates align with technical standards, operational requirements, and corporate objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high-level management support and coordination for the development, implementation, communication, and review of procedures, policies, and processes for estimating workflows.
- Manage and direct the development of optimal activities and refurbishment work orders that adhere to accounting and cost allocation standards, and depot workflows.
- Implement processes to review and manage estimate work order workload, team and employee output, performance metrics, and internal benchmarking.
- Provide technical and system training to estimating employees and offer maintenance and capital delivery advice, reports, and expertise to regional management teams.
- Contribute to strategic asset management and investment principles, balancing costs, risks, performance, sustainability, and asset utilization.
- Develop and support capital, maintenance and refurbishment reviews, audits, formal reports, and continuous improvement opportunities. Support Network Operations asset management activities to ensure alignment with established programs of work, cost projections, and organizational strategies
This role will be based within the Essential Energy footprint with the ability to work from home in a hybrid work environment.
About You
You are a confident and capable leader with a strong background in energy distribution and a deep understanding of the estimation process across both capital and maintenance works. With a focus on clarity and execution, you understand how work progresses through the delivery pipeline and use that insight to streamline processes, support decision making, and ensure high performance. You thrive in environments where you can simplify complexity, translating technical detail into clear and actionable outcomes for your team and stakeholders.
You lead with integrity and conviction, fostering a culture of accountability and open communication. Your approach is grounded in honesty and transparency, and you are respected for your ability to engage constructively, even when navigating challenging conversations or competing priorities.
Your strength lies in combining sharp analytical capability with a practical understanding of your team's needs, enabling you to guide with clarity, make informed decisions, and support others to succeed. You are improvement focused, always seeking opportunities to refine processes, build team capability, and deliver better outcomes for the business. Your interpersonal and leadership skills enable you to influence, negotiate, and build trust across all levels of the organisation, from frontline staff to senior leaders.
