Sydney Water is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient processing of treasury and general ledger transactions, while also supporting broader accounting functions including fixed assets and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily treasury operations including cash flow forecasting, TCorp transactions, and intra-day bank monitoring to ensure accurate settlements and liquidity management.
- Provide strong analytical expertise in modelling of historical cash inflows and outflows and forecasting future cash inflows and outflows over short, medium, and long-term periods.
- Contribute to establish and implement Treasury process improvements for more accurate forecasting and timely reporting to the Treasury Manager.
- Prepare complex reconciliations and review general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual cash flow reports, audit work papers, and financial statements in collaboration with Corporate Finance.
- Provide system and process improvement input, including user acceptance testing, service ticket management, and disaster recovery testing.
- Contribute to team coordination, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations

About You
- Proven expertise in cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and handling investment and borrowing activities.
- Strong analytical skills with a track record of implementing process and reporting improvements.
- Advanced technical capability in general ledger reconciliations, financial reporting, and resolving complex accounting issues.
- Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and asset management systems with CPA/CA qualification or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a relevant field
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client service skills, with a critical thinking approach to problem-solving.
