The Financial Investment Analyst role is integral to supporting birdwood energy in achieving our renewable energy project development and investment objectives by advising on developments and transaction execution based on preferred risk and return criteria and helping with the management of operational assets.
Key responsibilities
- Actively participate in identifying, evaluating and executing development, investment and strategic acquisition opportunities.
- Develop and maintain unlevered and levered financial models for renewable energy projects including energy storage, undertake sensitivity analysis of key outputs, review of valuation assumptions and financial projections.
- Evaluate investment opportunities using appropriate methodologies (discounted cash flow, multiples, DDM, etc.) and advise leadership team on matters such as purchase of new business opportunities, divestment of existing investments, mergers and investment financings.
- Support senior investment leads with analysis for trade agreements (power purchase, O&M, etc).
- Collaborate with senior leadership and functional teams to develop portfolio companies’ business plans (including revenue, operating and capital expenditure) and strategies.
- Support the due diligence process including managing data rooms; reviewing legal, accounting (including P&L, cash flow and balance sheet statements), financial and taxation documents; and advice on business structures, business plans and operations to ensure thorough evaluation of target assets.
- Support the asset management function with review of operational and financial performance and review of taxation advice.
- Prepare periodic portfolio company performance, compliance and investor reports and assist in the preparation of audited financial statements.
- Contribute to drafting of preliminary and investment committee papers.
- Assist in preparing investment memorandums, investor pitch presentations and portfolio company Board papers.
- Support the valuation process for portfolio assets including liaising with external valuation firms, updating portfolio company financial models and facilitating stakeholder meetings.
- Conduct periodic research on renewable energy market trends, energy regulation changes. Proactively follow market news and collect information relevant to investments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or engineering.
- Post graduate qualifications in Finance (Masters), MBA or CFA would be highly desirable.
- Two to six years of prior experience in an investing or corporate finance role, particularly in the energy infrastructure, energy PE, investment banking, energy advisory or industries.
- Solid experience in financial modelling.
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office suite.
- Genuine appreciation for or interest in clean energy infrastructure.
- A motivated, self-starter with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- A high level of attention to detail on financial analysis and investment papers.
- Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written).
