There’s No Us Without U. Care with Us, for Today and Tomorrow
There's no life without water, and at Urban Utilities, we live and breathe that knowledge every single day. Our passion drives us to leverage digital innovation and technology to revolutionise the water industry. Join us in shaping our digital future, making a lasting impact, and transforming our teams. And it's why we need people like YOU. Come and shape our future with us and make a real and lasting impact across our teams.
Your opportunity:
At Urban Utilities, we’re on a mission to shape a smarter, more sustainable future — and we know that starts with understanding the challenges and opportunities across our business. As a Specialist Analyst – Digital Investment Strategy in our Digital Strategic Planning team, you’ll work at the intersection of people, process, and technology to uncover insights, solve complex problems, and drive meaningful change and help lead the development of our long-term digital investment roadmap.
This role is ideal for someone who brings a mix of strategic thinking, analyses and roadmap development. You’ll partner with teams across the organisation to identify investment pathways and priorities across IT, OT, and IoT environments. Your work will help shape the future of how we deliver value to our customers and communities.
You’ll also play a key role in building capability across the organisation — helping others to think critically, collaborate effectively, and lead change with confidence. You’ll be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team that values curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning. We work flexibly, share knowledge openly, and back each other to take smart risks and try new things. If you’re someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of our 5-year and 10-year digital investment and transformation programs and supporting investment logic mapping and adaptive plans.
  • Drive the ”pre-project phases” of large, complex digital initiatives—from opportunity identification to strategic business case development.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of our investment tools, templates and processes.
  • Engage with executive and senior leadership to align digital strategies with business priorities.
  • Provide assurance and mentoring, reviewing deliverables and uplifting team capability.
  • Partner with business units to uncover challenges and identify opportunities across IT, OT, and IoT environments.
  • Facilitate collaborative workshops to co-design solutions and align stakeholder objectives.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of investment tools, templates and processes
About you:
You’re a curious, collaborative problem-solver who brings a thoughtful, people-centred approach to everything you do. You’re passionate about making things better—and you know how to bring others along on the journey.
You’ll bring:
  • Experience in developing and managing portfolio investment plans and supporting analyses
  • Strong facilitation skills and confidence leading workshops and collaborative sessions.
  • A track record of solving complex problems and delivering value-driven solutions.
  • Proficiency in process modelling, requirements management, and strategic documentation.
  • The ability to influence outcomes and build strong cross-functional relationships.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for capability building.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex ideas.
  • A flexible, proactive approach and a genuine interest in contributing to a purpose-driven organisation.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in problem definition, investment logic mapping and program development.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Strong skills in strategic deliverable assurance and mentoring.
Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.
At UU, we celebrate diversity. We genuinely believe that bringing together diversity of thoughts, perspectives and expressions is key and crucial to our success as a business. You might find you meet some, but not all, of the job requirements for this role. We’d still encourage you to apply as we we’re looking for the right human being for this role - it’s about so much more than ticking all the boxes!
