Job Description
ACAP is seeking three dedicated First Nations Sessional Social Work Lecturers to join our teaching team for the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) [MSW(Q)] program. This identified position is part of our commitment to strengthening the voices and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in higher education.
As a First Nations educator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how future social workers understand and engage with First Nations communities. You will contribute to embedding cultural safety and self-determination into curriculum and practice, building a stronger, more respectful profession.
Opportunities are available at both our Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide campuses.
Areas of Teaching May Include
We are seeking sessional lecturers in one or more of the following areas:
- Working with First Nations Peoples (priority subject area)
- Community work, social action, public policy
- Groupwork, family work
- Ageing, disability and complex care
- Trauma-informed practice
- Research methods
- Mental health
- Law and ethics
- Sociology
Sessional Work Involves:
- Delivering interactive 3-hour workshops (primarily on campus)
- Marking assessments and managing classroom administration
- Supporting and advising students
- Contributing to culturally safe and inclusive learning environments
- Teaching on a sessional basis over 13-week trimesters
- Opportunities to act as Unit Coordinator in exceptional cases
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
We’re looking for passionate and knowledgeable First Nations professionals with:
- A Master’s-level qualification in Social Work (preferred)
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Extensive experience as a practicing Social Worker
- A commitment to advancing cultural safety and First Nations perspectives in education
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Experience or interest in tertiary education and mentoring
