About the RoleAs a Fitter (General), you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of industrial equipment, including single-phase and three-phase concrete grinding and polishing machinery, dust extraction units, generators, and pneumatic tools. This role involves reading technical drawings, conducting rigorous diagnostics, fabricating and assembling components, and interfacing with clients and suppliers. This role requires strong technical skills across mechanical and electrical components, and the ability to work both independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose faults, and repair industrial machinery such as gear driven concrete grinders, fluid power equipment (floor strippers), vacuums, air purifiers, and generators
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals for equipment assembly, disassembly, and repairs.
- Perform maintenance and component replacement across a wide range of equipment types, including fitting fabricated parts and subassemblies to machines.
- Shaping and finishing metal components to precise tolerances using machining tools such as presses, grinders, lathes, drills, and milling machines.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install metal parts to equipment, checking for accuracy, clearance, and fit.
- Carry out HEPA filter integrity testing and performance evaluations.
- Install and configure new mechanical and electrical components on advanced machinery.
- Replacing pneumatic hoses in machinery
- Liaise with suppliers (domestic and international) regarding warranty claims, spare parts, and product improvements.
- Provide support to clients on-site including erecting machines to diagnose faults.
- Prepare quotations, invoices, and detailed reports with preventative maintenance recommendations.
- Adhere to WHS practices, environmental standards, and internal quality systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 2 years proven experience in a similar fitter or mechanical service technician role.
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems; experience with electrical/pneumatic components is an advantage.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and service documentation.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable and motivated team player.
- Manual driver’s licence preferred.
