The position:
The Gambling Help Service (GHS) provides counselling, support, education, and referral services to individuals impacted by problem gambling. This includes the affected individual, their family and friends and the wider community. The Gambling Help Service also provides education to the community and gaming venues about the impact of problem gambling, how to identify problem gambling and where to seek help in the community. The Gambling Help Service covers the North Queensland region including Townsville, Palm Island, Magnetic Island, Ingham, Charters Towers, Burdekin, Northern Highlands, Mount Isa and Gulf Region.
Key Responsibilities:
Liaise with community organisations and Gaming Venues to form highly effective connections in which to promote the Gambling Help Service and establish referral pathways to meet client needs.
Actively seeking out opportunities for the provision of information sessions within the community and other agencies.
Successful integration and maintenance of the Gambling Help Service in Indigenous Communities through consultation with community leaders, community engagement and the establishment of relationships and referral streams with existing services.
Work within relevant legislation and effective service delivery models. This includes sourcing and sharing up-to-date knowledge on research and best practice frameworks.
Maintain knowledge and understanding of the application of the legislation relevant to Gaming Machines and online betting through research as well as participation in community organisation network discussion.
Complete risk assessments
Accurately record client data
Participate in program and service planning, review, monitoring and evaluation activities, to ensure efficient, effective, and appropriate service provision.
Travel to regional, remote and rural communities to deliver the Gambling Help Service, including overnight travel.
Skills and Experiences:
To be successful you will need:
- Possession of a relevant degree in social work, psychology or behavioural science
- Demonstrated ability to implement psycho-social and risk assessment skills during all stages of client contact
- Accurately prepare and document reports and case reviews.
- Maintain a current First Aid Certificate.
- Facilitation skills in a group or individual setting with diverse clients
- Ability to be innovative in your approach whilst supporting addiction and involving the family
- Experience working with addition desirable
- Current membership with professional association desirable.
- Open Driver licence.
- Ability to obtain or already possess Queensland Blue Card and NDIS workers Screening clearance.
