At Redland City Council, we’re looking for a Governance Adviser to join our Corporate Governance team and play a vital role in strengthening our organisation’s commitment to good governance and ethical practice.
About the role:
As Governance Adviser, you will work alongside the Senior Adviser Governance Services to deliver timely, expert guidance across Council’s governance and statutory obligations. This includes preparing high-quality agendas and minutes for Council’s formal meetings, maintaining critical registers (delegations, policies, authorisations), and supporting the Executive Leadership Team and senior stakeholders with governance advice and reporting requirements.
Guided by our Values , you will:
Coordinate and deliver a centralised minute-taking and agenda preparation service for statutory meetings in accordance with legislative requirements and Council Standing Orders.
Manage Council’s key statutory and non-statutory registers, ensuring accuracy, compliance and currency.
Provide specialist governance advice to internal stakeholders, including ELT and elected members.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of governance systems, policies, and processes.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Local Government Regulation 2012) to support compliance and risk mitigation.
What you’ll bring:
Proven experience in governance or committee support within a local government or similar regulated environment.
Strong understanding of meeting procedures, statutory obligations, and local government legislation.
Exceptional written communication skills, with demonstrated capability in minute-taking and preparing complex reports.
Ability to manage competing deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and provide sound advice in politically sensitive contexts.
Collaborative and solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
