The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Officer to provide a critical role at the Beechworth Correctional Centre.

The Beechworth Correctional Centre is a minimum-security facility with a focus on preparing individual for release and successful reintegration back into society. It offers various working industries with the men given the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will effectively link them to employment on release. When not engaged in work, the men attend rehabilitative programs to address their offending behaviour, engage in education and visits whilst many also engage in recreation and community assistance programs.
About the Role
Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within prison industries. This includes assisting with the management of prisoner employment, safe operating procedures and other Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements, and compliance with prison industry procedures.
Industry Officers may be required to work in various industry areas or the prison according to operational requirements. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners.
Some of your duties will include:
- Supervise achievement of commercial production targets and customer expectations, develop and monitor the budget, procure goods and services; ensure security, Occupational Health and Safety and food safety compliance is adhered to.
- Actively identify, refer, and support prisoners' participation in integrated education into prisoner employment.
- Deliver against production performance targets, industry requirements and Occupational Health and Safety, and food safety compliance.
- This includes commercial production targets to meet industry and customer expectations, ordering and maintaining control of stock, financial records, prisoner pays and ensuring compliance with the Industry Management Manual.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending.
- A demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of modern industry techniques and the maintenance of industry equipment.
- Demonstrated understanding of processes and procedures in accordance with the Prison Industries Management manual.
- Relevant experience in commercial cookery, food hygiene, food preparation, stock control/ordering, and OHS.
Qualifications/requirements
- Qualification or experience relevant to the food service industry would be desirable.
- The successful applicant will be required to complete Prison Officer Pre Service Training on commencement if not previously completed.
