Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) services the Group’s major corporate, institutional and government clients, creating customised solutions based on specific needs, industry trends and market conditions. Our Total Capital Solutions offering includes debt and equity capital raising, financial and commodities risk management and transactional banking capabilities. Institutional Banking and Markets also has wholesale banking operations in London, Amsterdam, New York, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Beijing and Shanghai.

IB&M Finance supports the IB&M businesses in providing financial control, financial analysis, product control, regulatory, accounting and related project implementation for finance related functions. The Decision Support and Capital team is responsible for a number of areas, including providing strategic ad hoc insights, business partnering and decision support to various senior stakeholders, as well as the reporting and analysis of global profitability, business key performance indicators, capital and risk adjusted performance.
The role will be primarily responsible for the decision support portfolio, which will require regular interactions with teams across IB&M Finance, cross-BU finance teams, Group Finance, as well as the IB&M Leadership Team and senior business stakeholders. This role has no direct reports.
Some of the key areas you will be providing support across include:
- Providing robust reporting and analysis on IB&M’s global profitability, business key performance indicators and benchmarking performance against banking peers
- Partnering and building strong relationships with senior stakeholders to provide decision support and actionable insights
- Producing and showcasing new, relevant ad-hoc insights to IB&M’s stakeholders that drive action and change in the business

This role is wide reaching and not prescriptive in every sense. Discretion and sound judgment
are critically important. The role includes, but is not limited, to the following:
- Reporting and analysis on the drivers of global profitability across various client lens, partnering with domestic and offshore finance teams to present insights on the performance drivers of our offshore
- branches
- Reporting and analysis on IB&M’s key performance indicators, partnering with finance and business stakeholders to analyse performance against set benchmarks / targets and presenting results to various stakeholders (e.g. IB&M CFO)
- Analysis of domestic and offshore peer bank results, standing up key insights on comparable performance and areas of interest to present to senior stakeholders (e.g. IB&M Leadership Team)
- Ad hoc analysis and generation of actionable insights as required to support senior stakeholders, and also through the proactive maintenance of an insights pipeline / backlog for consideration
- Business partnering with the IB&M Strategy team, providing finance support on strategy deliverables
- Process improvement / automation of existing processes, such as delivering on automated reporting and data asset solutions to improve speed to delivery on reporting and analysis
- Engage with people across various parts of IB&M Finance, the business and the wider
- Group; stakeholder management and communication skills are key success factors in this role
- Proactively contributing to the team and IB&M Finance’s culture and strategic priorities
We’re interested in hearing from people who have
- Strong commercial acumen, with knowledge of the banking industry and drivers of performance
- Well-developed numeracy and analytical skills: identifying key issues, trends and themes
- Strong Excel and Powerpoint skills
- Tertiary qualifications – hold a tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or an equivalent business-related discipline
- Professional qualification - CA, CPA, CFA or similar
- Minimum 3 years professional experience, preferably in the banking or financial services industry
- Experience working with big data assets with the ability to extract actionable insights
- A desire to question and improve on the status quo
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to coordinate and manage competing deadlines within a complex and changing environment
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and idealising from a ‘blank slate’
- High attention to detail with the ability to extract key messages and deliver insights that influence decision-making.
