The Opportunity
As the Media and Communications Lead at the City of Perth, you will head the Media and Communications team, providing specialist advice and support to protect and enhance the City’s reputation and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and the community. This role leads the City’s strategic and proactive media and public affairs initiatives, often requiring work outside standard office hours, and oversees the management of the City’s social media channels.
Reporting to the Alliance Manager within our Communications and Marketing team, your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality, strategic media advice to the Lord Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, Alliance leadership, and other key internal stakeholders;
- Collaborating across Alliances and service units to deliver timely, coordinated, and positive promotion of City activities;
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with key media contacts, including journalists, editors, and producers across print, broadcast, and digital platforms; and
- Managing the Media and Communications budget, ensuring compliance with the City’s financial policies and alignment with strategic priorities.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Extensive experience in media and communications across traditional and digital channels;
- Excellent written communications skills and story-telling;
- High level experience in media relations and crisis management; and
- Demonstrated leadership experience with multidisciplinary teams, including staff development and performance management.
