We are the nation’s largest not-for-profit employment services provider, and for over 40 years, we’ve helped individuals find work and achieve sustained financial and social self-reliance. The Parent Pathways Program is a free pre-employment program that helps parents and guardians of young children to build skills and confidence and prepare for the workforce.


Starting a family is a special and rewarding time, but a lot of parents find themselves in a position at one point or another needing to get back into the workforce, whether it be for financial reasons, or to step into a new career to find professional independence again.


The program aims to address any challenges or concerns within the parent’s immediate family to enable them to focus on the future and identify areas of interest and set career goals. Further support with building skills and gaining qualifications is also be provided.

Services are tailored to meet parents’ needs and support them in overcoming personal barriers and become ready to find work or enter further education when the time is right.


This role will be offer on a full time ongoing basis and will be based across the Lakemba and Hurstville sites.


There will be travel required to these two sites across the week.

Lakemba – Monday, Tuesday, Friday

Hurstville – Wednesday and Thursday


Travel is also required in the local area for Community Engagement, however this will occur in the Lakemba and Hurstville areas.


How will a Parent Mentor assist parents through servicing
of this program?

  • Person-centred case management for eligible parents with young children
  • Address vocational and non-vocational needs
  • Supporting parents’ aspirations through tailored expertise and referring parents to internal and external services for further support where required
  • Engage with community organisations to develop strong opportunities
  • Provide a calm, respectful, welcoming, and child friendly service to maintain engagement
  • Practice an empathetic approach towards parents and their circumstances to help build trusted relationships to achieve positive outcomes.


What skills
and experience do Parent Mentors need possess to support Parents back into the workforce?

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Empathy and trauma awareness
  • Ability to effectively work with a culturally diverse range of Parents, employers, education and community service providers, and staff
  • Excellent writing skills to write resumes, cover letters, assessments, referrals and case notes
  • Strong Labour Market knowledge
  • A minimum Certificate III in a relevant field (including Social Work, Community Services, Education, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health or Society and Culture) or Certificate IV in Employment Services or Career Development or demonstrated equivalent experience and willing to work towards a relevant Certificate III or IV qualification.
