Your purpose - People & Culture Lead

You work in partnership with our leadership team to help us foster a healthy and performant work environment and build an exceptional team, capable of delivering our ambitious roadmap.

You do this by understanding that happy and focused people are at the heart of a thriving business. You’ll work alongside the leadership team in a partnered approach to provide organisational support that actively improves employee experience, effectiveness and engagement by driving people-related innovations while ensuring good governance.

What you’ll be doing in the role

Recruitment

  • Lead recruitment efforts and coordinate all steps with relevant stakeholders, including the drafting of Job Descriptions, advertising of roles, screening of candidates, managing the interview process, reference checks, offer negotiation and onboarding.
  • Champion and proactively recruit for a healthy and diverse workforce, giving opportunity to underrepresented and special needs candidates.

HR Documents

  • Responsible for drafting and sending HR documentation: from offer letters, to salary adjustments, end of probation and others as necessary.
  • Endeavour to make these documents as concise, readable and plainly spoken as possible
  • Work closely with finance, legal and operations to ensure all details in documentation are accurate, enforceable and meet legal and compliance requirements.

Onboarding and offboarding

  • Manage the onboarding process and apply continuous improvement to make it as seamless and effective as possible.
  • Own the off-boarding process, proactively managing exit interviews, overseeing the closure of system access and the returning of hardware etc.
  • Handle relocation assistance for successful candidates or existing staff as required.

People development

  • Own the professional development pipeline, to bring real meaningful value to our team, building a strong culture of positive constructive feedback.
  • Maintain, manage and mature the Professional Development solution (Levels), and facilitate delivery within all functions working with Heads and relevant leadership. You will apply continuous improvement to mature the system year on year to keep it relevant and engaging for our team and business.
  • Manage and support any work experience and internship programs.
  • Respond to general enquiries regarding careers, internships, work experience, industry partnerships etc.
  • Ability to understand the needs of our diverse team and their various professional challenges.
  • Coach team member’s individual and team performance behaviours, fostering good working habits and correcting bad habits when necessary.

HR Advisor

  • Assist with complex decision making relating to people including: restructures, career changes, divesting of responsibilities, performance management, industry partnerships, breaches of trust and other unforeseen events.

Performance management

  • Own the administrative and HR framework for any performance management undertaken.
  • In some cases you will directly manage performance management of people.
  • In other cases, you will guide and assist leadership throughout the performance management, maintaining detailed records and providing ‘ahead of ready’ advice.

Systems, Policy and Process

  • Manage and improve our HR systems, upgrading them over time as needed
  • Maintain effective work flows for comms and processes, with an eye to building an experienced, happy, performant and diverse workforce
  • Assist, and own, the drafting of company HR-related policies and process documentation

External & Team Events

  • You may from time to time be asked to represent our business at external events. Such as conferences or industry engagement opportunities.
  • You will occasionally be tasked with planning and coordinating team events such as Christmas party, internal team conferences, off site training programs, Hackathons or a winter mid year team event.

Requirements

Your skills and experience (what we think you need to be successful)

  • Ideally 5+ years of experience in a directly related role.
  • Ideally 10+ years experience within a technology or creative business throughout the start-up and scale up stages.
  • Experience in a business with 30-100 people who work in a hybrid and cross timezone structure and can speak to the challenges, and adjustments necessary to work effectively and build team culture.
  • You are enthusiastic, proactive and have a genuine interest in helping people grow - you have a flair for understanding what drives them to do their best work.
  • You have seasoned and finessed interpersonal skills, you lead with authenticity and respect.
  • You have knowledge of video games and web development roles, technologies, titles and responsibilities, and industry trends.
  • Bonus if you play videogames and have a dozen Sims you’re still managing and romancing, when not playing Stardew Valley or Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy.
  • Clear and present understanding of workplace laws and regulations, including best practice and organisational structures and people processes that support effective workplaces.
  • Direct experience dealing with performance management, team restructures and other difficult people processes.
  • Experience working in a team using task-management software in an agile manner.
  • Excitement to dig in and experiment, perhaps get your hands dirty with some light web development , smart spreadsheets, Slack automations and integrations.
  • A team player with strong collaboration skills.
  • You’re genuinely excited by positive leadership, continuous improvement and learning, you find you nerd out about it and watch far too many videos on the subject in your free time.
  • You bring a positive energy and sense of fun to the workplace that’s infectious.
  • You understand healthy boundaries and the challenges everyday humans endure, you have a fire to help others thrive with the separation and objectivity to know when it's not going to work.

The Recruitment Process

  • Initial screening of applicants for suitability via their applications, resumes and cover letters.
  • Short Meet & Greet video calls will be arranged with the applicant pool that passes the initial screening.
  • Long form interview with presentation, the applicant’s technical skills will be tested via a short and focused presentation task that will be presented in the long form interview to a panel of peers.
  • Final interview with the co-founders, GM and a selection of the leadership team.
  • Reference & Australian police checks will be required
