Product Designer- 12 month fixed term contract

Do work that matters

At CommBank, we're on a mission to make banking delightful and human-centred. The Broker Strategy & Experience squad is at the forefront of this mission, delivering outstanding user experiences for both our customers and our support staff. You'll be part of the Engage & Manage Broker crew within the Home Buying domain (Retail Bank).

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced mid-level Product Designer to join the Broker Strategy & Experience squad. By applying a customer-centred approach, you’ll play a lead role in shaping the design and delivery of our market leading digital broker portal and tool set. This work supports our Home Loan Brokers in obtaining the best value finance, and providing excellent experiences for their customers in a fast, seamless and helpful way.

See yourself in our team

Reporting to the Experience Design Lead, you will drive the end-to-end discovery and design for the CommBroker portal. You’ll partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Business SMEs and Researchers in an agile environment to deeply understand customer and staff needs, translate insights into elegant, scalable solutions, and drive outcomes that deliver real customer and business value. You’ll balance strategic thinking with hands-on design execution, and you’ll be a key voice in shaping the product and the broader customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead squad initiatives autonomously with an overview from the Experience Design Lead, balancing discovery and delivery work as required.
  • Uncover customer problems, validate opportunities, and inform product strategy through research, workshops, and co-design.
  • Translate insights into concepts, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI designs, ensuring solutions are both desirable for customers and feasible for engineering.
  • Apply systems thinking and service design techniques to shape an offering that must anticipate the needs of customers, and the staff who support them.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineers throughout the agile lifecycle — from problem framing and ideation to delivery and iteration.
  • Champion customer-centricity and advocate for best-in-class user experience at every stage of the product development process.
  • Facilitate and participate in design critiques, workshops, and agile ceremonies, providing and receiving actionable feedback to continuously improve outcomes.
  • Contribute to evolving our design system for consistency, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Measure and validate impact post-launch, using a mix of qualitative and quantitative insights to iterate and improve solutions.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ years of experience designing digital products end-to-end in cross-functional product teams.
  • Proven ability to lead discovery and delivery activities with customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • Growth mindset and drive to develop your own capability and the capability of your colleagues.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills — you’re as comfortable sketching ideas on a whiteboard with engineers as you are presenting strategic concepts to executives.
  • Strong interaction and UI design skills, with an eye for detail and craft.
  • Experience designing for complex systems, services, or platforms, not just isolated features.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity, balancing customer needs with business goals.

Why Join Us

  • You’ll work on products that genuinely impact people’s lives.
  • You’ll be part of a highly collaborative, customer-first culture.
  • You’ll have ownership and autonomy to shape the product as a key member of a cross-functional team.
  • We invest in your growth and career development through coaching, learning budgets, and design community support.

If you are looking to apply, please include a copy of your CV and link to your portfolio.
